The Jordan Valley

May 15, 2008 / by mzweig

This morning at the clinic started out very slowly with no patients.  The reasoning was that since the roads were still shut down the buses were not available and people didn't come see us.  Add to that the fact that another dentist came in today and I really didn't have much to do, so I left early.

My plan was to drive today to the northern town of Tsfat and meet up with Rabbi Dubowe and Michael's counsin Willi.

There are a couple ways to get to Tsfat with the most direct way being through the West Bank along Hwy 90.  This area is safe and there really is no reason for someone to not go on it.  The road is very scenic and parallels the Israel &.  Jordan border for mot of the time.  The area is dotted with farms and small roadside tents selling fruits and veggies. I would not recommending anyone to buy the produce at these stands since the irrigation water is bad.

Along the way to Tsfat I went to the Belvoir castle which is located just north of Bet Shean.  Belvoir is an old crusader castle built out of black basalt rock.  It's been excavated starting in the 60's and has some really cool views.  Unfortunately the wind has been blowing pretty strong all day and that just killed the view.

So, I will be staying in Tsfat until Saturday night.  My converted tour guide,  Willi, is the cousin of Michael Dubowe and his wife's name is Gudi.  We had a very pleasant dinner tonight and started the touring already.

Not a long post for now. I think I fell asleep twice while writing!!!!

Pictures will be posted in a little bit

    Milt,

Just catching up with your blogs today -- what a great experience & a mitzvah!  So are you living in the German Colony? Corey and I used to live on Klein Street and the last time we there we still thought that Falafel Doron was the best in town (request the aish tanor not the regular pita).  If you run into the bomb squad again, ask if my friend Aviv is around -- you met him in 2006 when we were there together.

If you have a chance, check out the Mt. Zion hotel -- I think we are staying there in the summer of '09.

    Enjoy your travels.
